Origin
Sodalite had the original etymological name "soda lithos". Soda means sodium and lithos means stone. By merging these two words it would be called sodium stone. Discovered in the 1800s, this stone was first used for ornament. Mainly mined in Africa and South America, it can also be found in Greenland.
Composition
Sodalite is part of the family of silicates. It consists of sodium silicate with aluminum chloride. On the Mohs scale, its hardness is between 5.5 and 6 and its density is 2.3. It can be translucent or opaque, its different variants of blue can be embellished with yellow, white and green.
