Dalmatian Jasper, otherwise called "Lamparci Jasper" or "Dalmatian Stone" bears these names for its similarity with the coat of the Dalmatian. This stone is commonly used in jewelry and lithotherapy.

Origin

Many ancient civilizations used Dalmatian Jasper to make protective amulets and other jewelry. Its name comes from the Latin “iaspidem”, itself coming from the Greek “iaspis”, which means spotted stone. This stone is mainly mined in Brazil as well as on the island of Madagascar.

Composition

Dalmatian Jasper is a stone belonging to the Crystalline Quartz group. Its spots are usually inclusions of black tourmaline. Its hardness is 7 on the Mohs scale and a density of 2.7.
